Some of our members are very isolated and lonely, often they have carer’s popping in and out, however, the carer’s are often not allocated time to sit down and have a chat and a cup of tea with the people they are caring for, our charity recognises this, therefore, along with our home visiting service, for our most vulnerable members we offer telephone befriending.

You will receive a phone call from a fellow Vision Support member or a volunteer, who, whilst enjoying a cup of tea, will sit comfortably and have a really good natter. This is not an advice line as such, even though lots of helpful tips and tricks get shared between them, just an opportunity to talk about absolutely anything, over the weeks, months and years, building on a genuine friendship. Don’t worry if you would like less frequent calls, just let your telephone befriender know what suits you.

A message from Pauline, one of our telephone befriender
“It is truly a pleasure to do telephone befriending. Over time the people you phone become your friends. Sometimes they ask for your help about a particular need or problem and If possible you put them in contact with the appropriate person. You may be the only person they speak to in a week and they really look forward to your call. So, to be able to offer them friendship is truly worthwhile and very rewarding.”
